Artist's Statement: “I would rather do art than talk about it.” I visit art galleries and museums as often as I can and when I travel to any new city, I visit whatever local galleries are available.I have read hundreds of artist statements, some of which I don’t even begin to understand. I feel the less said the better - hence, the development of my artist statement above.I did particularly like the artist statement listed below which which captures in a more elegant way my artistic philosophy:
“I have refused again and again during the whole of my career as a painter and teacher to make any statement on art ... I have read too many statements by painters of what their intentions were, listened endlessly to aesthetic argument and profundities associated with different theories that I feel the less said the better….I hold it to be the privilege of any one to paint in any direction he chooses.Time, and time alone, will winnow the chaff from the wheat.” --Kenneth M. Adams letter, 1959
